Sizer Software by Brian Apps

Sizer Software by Brian Apps

Sizer 3.33

Sizer is a freeware utility that allows you to resize any window to an exact, predefined size. This is extremely useful when designing web pages, as it allows you to see how the page will look when viewed at a smaller size. The utility is also handy when compiling screen-shots for documentation, using Sizer allows you to easily maintain the same window size across screen grabs.

Assessing Applications for XenApp Compatibility

Ensure applications are compatible with the server operating system and are multiuser compatible. Application compatibility drives the application delivery method (for example, accessed from the server, streamed to server, or streamed to client desktops).

Evaluate whether or not applications are compatible with multiuser environments and, if so, the application server’s scalability. Before testing applications for compatibility, investigate how the application works with Terminal Services or XenApp. Terminal Services-compliant and Windows Logo certified applications experience few, if any, issues compared with noncompliant applications.

Initial application compatibility testing typically involves publishing the application so that is installed and hosted on a server in a test farm and having multiple test users connect to it. Applications that function correctly should be tested for conflicts with other applications you want to install on the server and, then, scalability.

Applications that do not function correctly might not have been designed for multiuser, multiapplication environments. Applications not designed for these environments can conflict with other applications or have scalability or performance issues. Registry settings, attempts to share files or DLLs, requirements for the exclusive use of files or DLLs, or other functionality within an application can make it incompatible. You can resolve some application issues through streaming, using features like Virtual IP, or siloing the application.

After testing, if these solutions do not work, you might need to find and fix the root cause of the problem. To identify root applications issues, consider using tools like the Microsoft Application Compatibility Toolkit (ACT) or Microsoft’s Windows Sysinternals. Examples of common issues include:
  • .INI files that contain hard-coded file path names, database connection settings, and read/write file locking configurations that need to be reconfigured to prevent file conflicts.
  • Custom applications developed with hard-coded paths in the registry.
  • Applications that use the computer name or IP address for identification purposes. Because a server can run multiple instances of the application, all instances could use the same IP address or computer name, which can cause the application to fail.

When you find any of these hard-coded settings or other conflicts, document the setting in your farm design document. After you find resolutions to these issues, design your farm and test your design by creating a pilot test farm.

To clear the streamed application cache on user devices - Citrix eDocs

To clear the streamed application cache on user devices - Citrix eDocs

Use the RadeCache command-line utility to clear the streamed application cache on user devices. For example, free space in the application cache or start with an empty cache while troubleshooting streaming issues. The RadeCache utility is included in the CitrixStreamingProfiler.exe and is installed automatically on the user device in Program Files > Citrix.
Note: Before using the RadeCache command, make sure that the application programs and processes are terminated on the user device. For large applications such as Microsoft Office, this can take up to 10 minutes.
  1. On the computer where you want to clear the cache, type the following at a command prompt:

radecache [-i] [-if] [-ir] [-u] [-uf] [–ur]

    [/flush:GUID]

    radecache [/flushall]

    radecache [/?]

where GUID is the unique GUID for the application streamed to user devices. GUIDs must not include spaces.

  2. Set your options as needed, including the following parameters:
    • /? displays the syntax for the utility and information about the options of the utility
    • -i clears the registry and files in the install root
    • -if clears only files in the install root
    • -ir clears only the registry in the install root
    • -u clears the registry and files in the user root
    • -uf clears only the files in the user root
    • -ur clears only the registry in the user root
    • /flushall clears the registry and files in both the install root and user root for all streamed applications
  3. Repeat for other applications, as needed.
This method affects only the local user device.

Setup for evaulating the Citrix XenAPP6 (CitrixXA6EVA.exe) with XenServer 5.6 SP2

Setup for evaulating the Citrix XenAPP6 (CitrixXA6EVA.exe) with XenServer 5.6 SP2

I'll tell you what this has been the most painful setup I've ever done. I want to punch those Citrix document writers in the face for the limited documenation on this.

Fair enough some knowledge on NFS and Linux would help on this. But what if you don't like me.

All I want to do is test my app in Citrix XenApp 6 and troubleshoot an issue I've got and see how it performs.

I have limited hardware available for this test, so the moment I'm using one desktop with XP. 4 GB ram (actually 3.23 in use).

So I thought I'd better make a record of this before I forget. Here is where I'm at, and my steps to get here. (not including all issues allong the way, but some and fixes)

Desktop with Windows XP SP3, Intel Cord 2 Quad CPU Q6700 @ 2.66Ghz + 4GB (3.23GB) or RAM.
Two harddisks C: 300GB and D: 1TB
VirtualBox version 4.0.10 r72479 installed

1. Installed XenServer 5.6 SP2 (5.6.100-47101p) in VM with Windows 2008 64bit profile with 50 GB HD.
2. Installed haneWIN NFS Server on physical machine created NFS D:\NFS -public
3.  Attempted to add NFS in XenServer but didn't work, later figured out via many google searches, I need to enter "IP:/d/NFS" for the Share Name when creating New Storage Repository.
4. NFS added now, but:it says:

Size  total, 0 bytes

This Storage Repository is unplugged and not usable by this host.

try this:

XenServer console or SSH session to the XenServer host:
showmount -e
